Strait, the commanding officer of the 361st Squadron, 356th Group, United States Army Air Forces. Based at Martlesham Heath in Suffolk, England, in 1945, this aircraft and its pilot played a critical role during the final stages of the Allied air campaign over Europe. Major Strait, a native of New Jersey, named his aircraft with the affectionate moniker Jersey Jerk, combining humor and pride for his home state.
