Vintage Black Lacquer Chinese Bamboo Basket Lidded Box Made in China Mid Century

This is a vintage Chinese woven lidded basket, likely mid-20th century (1950s–70s). This is based on the "MADE IN CHINA" label (in English and Chinese), which indicates it was produced for export post-1949 (after the founding of the People's Republic of China).

Also, the machine-cut paper label with a stamped code ("AB19-9") is consistent with Chinese export items sold in the West during the mid-century modern period.

Constructed from thin split bamboo or rattan, tightly woven and lacquered black for durability and sheen. The base is a diagonal herringbone weave, while the lid and side walls have a fine lattice pattern.

These kinds of baskets were often sold as decorative vanity boxes, jewelry holders, or small storage containers. They're lightweight but durable and were commonly paired with similar black lacquered items like tea caddies and trays.
