Rare antique set of the first three volumes of The Early Records of the Town of Providence, published under authority of the Providence City Council in the 1890s. These are the foundational books in the series of 21 volumes that preserved the earliest town records of Providence, Rhode Island.

Compiled and published by record commissioners Horatio Rogers, George Moulton Carpenter, and Edward Field, these volumes transcribe and print records from the mid-1600s, including land divisions, town laws, agreements, and signatures of early settlers.

Volume I (1892): The First Book of the Town of Providence — “The Long Old Book with Parchment Cover.”

Volume II (1893): The Second Book of the Town of Providence — also known as the “Town Old Book,” the “Short Old Book,” or the “Book with Brass Clasps.”

Volume III (1893): Part of the Third Book of the Town of Providence — “The Book with Brass Clasps.”
